Assistance for nursing care
In terms of the social assistance statistics - recipients of assistance according to chapter 5 to 9 SGB XII of the Federal Statistical Office:
With the assistance for nursing care according to chapter 7 SGB XII the social assistance supports also persons in need of care. The assistance for nursing care is granted to people in need, who because of disease or disability have to rely on outside help for common and recurrent activities in daily life. It is, however, only granted, if the person in need of care can neither pay the nursing care services by himself nor get them from others - for example the nursing care insurance. Until the enactment of the nursing care insurance on 1 January 1995 and the resulting services starting from April 1995 (domestic care) or starting from July 1996 (inpatient care) the assistance for nursing care was the main instrument within the social assistance to give material security when people are in need of care.
