Rounding differences in the sums are possible, as these are calculated based on the absolute cost data, and not on the cost in 1,000 Euro.
From 2002, costs are calculated according to the gross principle again. This is a departure from the net principle of the years 1996 to 2001. When costs are determined on the basis of the gross principle, total costs recorded by the bookkeeping are shown first which are later adjusted for non-inpatient costs, e.g. costs of outpatient departments, research and teaching. This holds for every individual cost type. Consequently, it is not possible to compare individual cost items (e.g. material costs, staff costs) with those of the years 1996 to 2001. The gross principle was also used before 1996.
1) The values for the training fund in the federal result are about 1 - 2% too high because of false coding in Brandenburg, Saxony and Saxony Anhalt. This has also a slight effect on the gross overall costs and on the adjusted costs, which are about 0.1% too high.
