• ¹⁾ The comparatively large number arises from the fact that no data with regards to the form of dependency and nature of treatment were available from the various Good Templar lodges. The main reason for this is the tendency of these groups to be less concerned with working on the cause of the addiction as the problem, than with an attempt to find and practice an alternative lifestyle for people committed . Members are to be found in these groups - albeit in declining numbers - who have never been faced with an addiction problem, but to whom a conscientious alcohol-abstinent way of life as well as the fundamentals and working principles of the German Good Templar Order are of great importance.
