Because of the place of residence principle introduced on January, 1, 2003, only the data for "Germany total" are comparable with the previous years starting from 2003.
Deviations in the sums result from rounding off the figures.

Dental prosthetics and orthodontics: In accord with the second reform of the statutory health insurance (GKV-NOG), dentists bill the patients directly for, from 1 July 1997, orthodontic services and, from 1 January 1998, dental prosthetic services. Therefore, these services are not reported. From 1999 onwards, these services are once more settled through the Federation of Dentists Affiliated with the Health Service in accord with the amendments made to the statutory health insurance in 1998 (GKVSolG).

In the field of prosthetics the fixed allowance system was established in 2005. Therefore, comparisons with the years before 2005 are not possible.

2022: The significant rise in the area of periodontal treatment is due to an expansion of the periodontal treatment scheme and to the introduction of new measures.
