The values of turnover are reported without sales tax.
Deviations in the sums result from rounding off the figures.

From 1980 to 1988, the figures reflect taxpayers with an annual income of at least 10,226 €, from 1990 to 1994 at least 12,782 €, from 1996 to 2001 at least 16,617 € 2002 at least 16,620 € and since 2003 at least 17,500 €.

In the Value added tax statistics all companies are included, which have to file an advance turnover tax return. Excluded are companies with an annual turnover of less than 22,000 € (until 2019: up to 17,500 €) and companies, which paid less than 1,000 € in the preceding year. Companies, which transact almost only tax-free turnovers and where therefore no tax payment accrues are not included.

Between 1980 and 1994 the turnover data of the pharmacies in Germany were reported every 2 years. Since 1996 the data procurement takes place annually.
