Families, Family
In terms of the Microcensus of the Federal Statistical Office:In the microcensus the family in the statistical sense includes all parent-child-communities, i.e. married couples, non-marital life partnerships and same-sex life partnerships as well as single mothers and fathers with unmarried children in the household. This definition of a family includes besides biological children - stepchildren, foster children and adopted children without age limit. Thus a statistical family always consists of two generations (two generation rule): parents and unmarried children living in the household. In the microcensus, children who live in a household together with their parents but already look after their own children, as well as children, who are married or live in a partnership, are not considered part ot their family of origin, but are counted statistically as a separate family or life form.
