General hospitals
In terms of the Hospital statistics of the Federal Statistical Office:General hospitals are hospitals, which are equipped with beds in fully-inpatient specialist departments, where the beds are not exclusively reserved for psychiatric, psychotherapeutic or psychiatric, psychotherapeutic and neurological patients.
Types of general hospitals:
- University clinics: university clinics according to the University Construction Promotion Act (HBFG - Hochschulbauförderungsgesetz).
- Plan hospitals: hospitals taken up in the hospital plan of a Federal State (German Land).
- Hospitals with a supply contract according to Article 108 Section 3 of the Code of
Social Law V (SGB V):
- hospitals which are authorized to implement hospital treatment of the insured because of a supply contract with the regional associations of the statutory health insurance funds and the associations of the substitute health insurance institutions ("Ersatzkassen").
- Other hospitals: hospitals which are not in the aforementioned categories and thus do not belong to the authorized hospitals according to Article 108 of the Code of Social Law V (SGB V).
