Base tariff
The base tariff, that is uniform for all private health insurance companies, was introduced on 1 January 2009. It is offered both as a 100 percent hedge and as a version compliant with the allowances for civil servants (Beihilfe). The insurance companies are obliged to insure certain groups of persons in this tariff - e.g. people without health insurance coverage, who are assigned to the private health insurance. In the base tariff there cannot be either additional payments for special risks nor exclusions of benefits, the services are based on the level of the statutory health insurance. The contribution is limited to the (average) maximum contribution of the statutory health insurance as of 1 January of the previous year, in 2009 as an exception 1 January of the same year was the reference point. If a person insured in the base tariff verifies a need of assistance according to the social law, the contribution is halved during this period. The base tariff replaced the modified standard tariff, whose insured persons were transferred into the base tariff at the beginning of the year 2009. In the base tariff limited rates for medical and dental treatments apply.
