Final examinations, Abschlussprüfung
In terms of the University statistics of the Federal Statistical Office:The exams are recorded, as far as they finish a university degree, i.e. without pre- and intermediate examinations, but including degrees of postgraduate studies, complementary, additional and second degree studies, if they are finished with an examination. Accordingly, examaninations of state and church examination offices are enquired, if they finish a university education, but not e.g. the second state examiniation at the end of the teacher's training (Referendarausbildung).
The final examinations can be classified by the examination result (passed/finally failed). Candidates with passed final examination are termed as graduates (Absolventen). The number of graduates is not identical with the number of graduates who leave the university after successful final degree. A part of the graduates remains at the university, for example for a second degree, postgraduate studies or complementary studies.
