Subject to compulsory insurance (SHI)
In terms of the Federal Ministry of Health:
Employees and apprentices, who carry out an employment for remuneration, are basically subject to compulsory insurance in
the Statutory Health Insurance. Among others a compulsory insurance in the Statutory Health Insurance exists for:
Employees, whose remuneration is regularly more than 450 Euro per month, but does not exceed the general upper income limit.
This limit is adjusted annually and amounts to 56,250 Euro in 2016. For persons who were already privately
insured on 31 December 2002, because the upper income limit was exceeded at that time, the special upper income
limit of 50,850 euro takes effect in 2016. Surcharges, which are paid considering the marital status, are disregarded.
