Non-marital life partnerships (Microcensus, starting from 1996), Non-marital life partnership
In terms of the Microcensus of the Fedeal Statistical Office:(valid from 1996) Non-marital life partnerships refer to couples of different sex (with and without unmarried children living in the same household), who are not related or married, but keep household together. Since the microcensus 1996 the household members, who are not related (or related by marriage) with the household reference person, are asked about a life partnership with the household reference person; the answer is volontary. Up to and including the microcensus 2005 it was irrelevant, whether the partnership was registered according to the Life Partnership Law introduced in 2001. Starting from 2006 also registered life partnerships have been enquired in the microcensus.
