Authorized medical practitioners and psychotherapists
In terms of the Federal Medical Registry of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians:
Beyond the circle of licensed and employed doctors or psychotherapists, doctors or psychotherapists may be authorized to take part in statutory medical care provided that
- the medical practitioner or psychotherapist has special examination and treatment methods or knowledge without which adequate medical care for the insured persons cannot be guaranteed, or
- to avert an existing or imminent undersupply or
- to avert additional local supply requirements or
- to provide servise to a limited group of people (e.g. rehabilitants in facilities of vocational rehabilitation or employees of an outlying or temporary organization).
It is precisely defined how long, where and to what extent the physician may act.
Only personally authorized medical practitioners and psychotherapists are included in the count. Medical practitioners and psychotherapists in authorized facilities (institute authorizations, e.g. psychiatric institute outpatient clinics) are not taken into account, because this information is usually not transmitted to the local Associations of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians or the Federal Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians.
Authorized medical practitioners and psychotherapists cannot be directly assigned to the general practitioner or specialist medical sector. For this reason, the following special characteristics must be taken into account:
- the number of authorized family doctors (without paediatricians) is 0.
- authorized internists cannot be divided into internists working as general practitioners and internists working as specialists. Therefore, the value 0 is specified as the number in these two categories. As a result, in the case of participating medical practitioners the sum of internists working as family doctors and specialist internists is smaller than the overall number of internists.
