Legionellosis
In terms of the Notifiable Infectious Diseases - data collection by Robert Koch Institute:The legionellosis is a respiratory disease, which is caused by bacteria of the genus legionella. We differentiate between the pontiac fever, which is characterised by fever, cough and muscle pain and the severe legionnaires disease, which is accompanied with pneumonia. The infection usually takes place via inhaling aerosols containing the agent which can occur for example when taking a shower. A direct transmission from human to human is not known. The disease mostly affects adults. Special risk groups are immunodeficient persons, people with chronic diseases as well as elderly people and smokers. Men are affected more frequently than women.
