Ageing reserve (Alterungsrückstellung)

In terms of the Numerical report (private health insurance) of the Association of Private Health Insurance Companies:
The insurance company enters into a legal commitment to ward the person insured, that the contributions do not increase due to the increasing use of health benefits because of higher age. To comply with this legal obligation, the insurance company has to build a reserve for the community of persons insured. This reserve is called ageing reserve ("Alterungsrückstellung"). The details for the formation of ageing reserves are legally regulated in the German Insurance Supervision Act ("Versicherungsaufsichtsgesetz") and in the calculation act ("Kalkulationsverordnung").
