Authorized medical practitioners

In terms of the Federal Medical Registry of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians:
Patients insured in the statutory health insurance usually undergo outpatient treatment by medical practitioners with their own practice under contract to the statutory health insurance. Also so-called authorized medical practitioners can take part in the supply by medical practitioners who are under contract to the statutory health insurance. The accreditation committee (a committee which is assigned by the local association of statutory health insurance physicians and the health insurance funds) can authorize medical practitioners to treat SHI patients, if for example an undersupply of the population exists or impends. The committee determines exactly how long, where and in which way the medical practitioner can act. Also foreign practitioners, hospital practitioners and institutions can be authorized.
