Basic benefits
In terms of the Social assistant statistics - recipients of basic benefits according to the Act on Benefits for Asylum-Seekers of the Federal Statistical Office:The basic benefits serve to cover the daily needs of the recipients. They are granted either in form of standard benefits (§ 3 Act on Benefits for Asylum-Seekers "Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz") or in special cases as assistance towards living expenses (§ 2 Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz):
- Standard benefits according to § 3 Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz are to meet the necessary needs of food, housing, heating, clothes, hygiene and body care as well as consumer goods and products by non-cash benefits. Under special circumstances also value vouchers and cash benefits can be provided, instead of non-cash benefits. In addition, recipients of benefits receive a montly sum of money (pocket money) for their personal needs of daily life. The thus granted invidual assistance as a whole is less than the corresponding assistance towards living expenses.
- In special cases, beneficiaries according to § 2 Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz receive assistance towards living expenses analogous to the benefits according to the Code of Social Law (Sozialgesetzbuch), book XII, instead of the above standard benefits.
