Body mass index

Body mass index (BMI) is nowadays the most commonly used benchmark to assess the body weight. The BMI is calculated by dividing body weight (in kilograms) by the square of height (in meters). The World Heath Organization classifies adults with a body mass index of more than 25 as overweight, with a value of more than 30 as heavily overweight and with a value of less than 18.5 as underweight. Sex and age are not considered in this classification.
