Diphtheria

The typical image is that of a severe pharyngitis caused by toxin producing bacteria of the type Corynebacterium diphtheriae. The bacteria can also occur in wounds (skin diphtheria). It is mainly transmitted by droplets. Diphtheria can be prevented by vaccination.
