EHEC

In terms of the Notifiable Infectious Diseases - data collection by Robert Koch Institute:
Some strains of the intestine bacterium Escherichia coli produce so-called shigatoxins, which can damage the intestine wall and can cause bloody diarrhoea. These strains are called enterohaemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC), shigatoxin producing E. coli (STEC) or veratoxin producing E. coli (VTEC). A life-threatening complication is the haemolytic uraemic snydrome (HUS). Infections with EHEC occur world wide. Ruminant animals, especially cattle, are considered reservoirs for the infection of humans.
