Echinococcosis
In terms of the Notifiable Infectious Diseases - data collection by Robert Koch Institute:The echinococcosis is caused by tapeworms - the cystic echinococcosis by the dog tapeworm (Echinococcus granulosus) and the alveolar echinococcosis by the fox tapeworm (Echinococcus multilocularis). Transmission takes place via close contact with infected animals, which excrete the worm eggs via faeces or via polluted food, like for example berry fruits. In cases of diseases the formation of cysts in the liver, the lungs or other organs occurs. The symptoms are defined by the size of the cysts. The disease can exist for a long time without symptoms.
