Hepatitis E

Hepatitis E occurs as an acute liver inflammation in the countries of South-East and Central Asia, in the Near East, North and West Africa and Central America (Mexico). The causative eponymous virus is excreted via faeces and mostly transmitted via polluted drinking water. In recent years an increase in autochthonous hepatitis C infections has been reported from the western industrialized countries.
