Internal migration

In terms of the migration statistics of the Federal Statistical Office:
internal migration covers movements back and forth from one Federal State (German Land) to another. Every change in address from one Federal State to another is registered, including such cases where someone moves to another address while maintaining his previous address, or where he returns to the previous address after relinquishing the newer accommodation. Removals within the individual Federal States are not taken into consideration.
