In terms of the Erlangen Community Stroke Registry:
Not lack of blood, but haemorrhage inside the brain is responsible for ten to fifteen percent of all strokes. Cause is mostly high blood pressure over considerable time. The brain vessels are permanently highly stressed - until they sometimes no longer resist the pressure and burst. Additional possible causes for brain haemorrhage are very rare: congenital vascular disorders, tumors, coagulopathy or serious inflammation.
