Lassa fever

In terms of the Notifiable Infectious Diseases - data collection by Robert Koch Institute:
Lassa viruses are arena viruses and belong to the agents that cause viral haemorrhagic fever. Lassa fever naturally occurs only in West Africa, where in some regions in half of the population antibodies can be attested. At the beginning of the infection chain there is a small rodent. The disease transmission usually takes places via contact with infectious animal excrements or via patients' blood. The majority of disease cases is relatively benign with flu-like symptoms. In each fifth infected person an impairment of different organs occurs with a mortality of about 15 percent.
