Outpatient medical treatment

In terms of the Microcensus of the Federal Statistical Office:
Outpatient medical treatments can be performed by general or specialized practitioners in their own practice or in an outpatient department (polyclinic) of a hospital. An inpatient treatment is given, as far as the interviewed person stayed at least one night in hospital and got food, medical treatments or other medical or nursing care. In this respect hospital facilities in which only monitoring without regular medical treatment takes place (for example facilities for invalids or persons who need recreation, nursing homes, nursing care facilities) are not counted as hospitals. In case of coincident inpatient and outpatient treatment in hospital the inpatient treatment prevails.
