In terms of the Diagnosis Related Groups ("Fallpauschalenbezogene Krankenhausstatistik" - diagnoses and procedures of full-time inpatients in hospitals) of the Federal Statistical Office:A regional allocation of the discharging hospital is done via the post code. If a hospital has several locations and the billing is done for all locations under a single institution label, the regional information of the respective discharging location are used. By use of the characteristics place of residence and place of treatment a catchment area statistics can be created, which gives information about patient migration.
