The transmission of the rubella virus from pregnant woman to her unborn child can cause - especially in the first third of pregnancy - an abortive birth or stillbirth or a multiplicity of anomalies (embryopathy), like deafness, eye damages, mental disabilities, heart anomalies and bone defects.
