Salmonellosis

Salmonellosis is a disease caused by bacteria of the genus salmonella, which mainly affects the intestine. Enteritis salmonellae are spread world-wide amongst others in poultry, pigs, cattle, but also in reptiles. They are usually transmitted via food. Diarrhoea is the main symptom. In addition, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and fever are also possible. The symptoms normally last few hours or days, but can also lead to hospital stays of several days. Typhus and paratyphoid fever, caused by Salmonella serovars S. typhi and S. paratyphi, differ significantly in the clinical picture from the other salmonelloses.
