In terms of the Notifiable Infectious Diseases - data collection by Robert Koch Institute:
Toxoplasmosis is caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. The transmission can happen by insufficiently cooked meat or contact with cats. In healthy adult the infection is usually without symptoms, however an infection for the first-time during pregnancy can lead to severe impairments (for example of the eyes or the brain) in the foetus, which partly emerge after years.
