In terms of the German Childhood Cancer Registry of the Institute of Medical Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics, University Medical Center Mainz:
Almost all types of cancer generate tumours, but not all tumours are cancerous or malignant. The gravest characteristic of malignant tumours is their ability to spread beyond the original focus of a disease.
