1 - Population by sex and age

Calculation
a) Total population
The number of usual resident inhabitants of a given area on 1st January of the year in question (absolute numbers)

b) Old-age dependency ratio
The ratio between the total number of elderly persons of an age when they are generally economically inactive (aged 65 and over) and the numbers of persons of working age (from 15 to 64)

Deviations from ECHIM definitions
Population on 31st December of the preceding year is used instead of population on 1st January.

  In terms of the Population Statistics of the Federal Statistical Office:
  The reference date population includes all persons, who have their (permanent) place of residence in the federal territory on December, 31, of the respective year ("Inländer"). An exception are the members of the foreign armed forces as well as the members of the diplomatic and consular representations with their families.

Comment(s)

• The results may include cases with the gender expression "indeterminate" or "diverse", which are distributed between male and female by a defined recoding procedure.

• The table was extended by the year 2021 on 20 Jun 2022.
