  According to the counselling rule ("Beratungsregelung") a pregnancy termination goes unpunished, if the pregnancy is terminated within 12 weeks after conception by a medical practitioner and the pregnant woman demands the abortion. She has to prove to the medical practitioner a pregnancy conflict counselling ("Schwangerschaftskonfliktberatung") at least three days ago via an attestation from an authorized counselling centre according to § 219 StGB.

  A criminilogical indication is given, if there are urgent reasons for the assumption, that the pregnancy is based on a sexual offense (sexual abuse of children, rape, sexual harassment or sexual abuse of those unable to offer resistance). The termination according to the criminological indication is allowed within 12 weeks after conception.

  Curettage is the extraction or removal of a biological substrate from the inner surface of a hollow organ or a cavity caused by an illness by means of a curette (blunt or sharp special surgical spoon, full or fenestrated). In the proper sense as uterus curettage for diagnostic purposes or as therapeutical curettage, such as removal of abort relics. A curettage is to be done under general anaesthetic.

  Terminations of pregnancy are interventions carried out by medical practitioners with the aim of early termination of pregnancy (induced abortions). The federal statistics about pregnancy terminations only includes terminations carried out in the Federal Republic of Germany. A termination is considered as justified, if the intervention is carried out because of the counselling rule ("Beratungsregelung") or if there is an indication (medical, criminological).
