Voluntarily insured persons (German Annuity Insurance Federation)
In terms of the Statistics on those actively insured of the German Annuity Insurance Federation:Persons, who paid at least one contribution to the voluntary insurance for the reporting year, respectively for whom (in case of reference date evaluations) in the month of the data procurement reference date a voluntary contribution in the insurance account is recorded, are referred to as voluntarily insured. For voluntary insurance are entitled:
- Persons, who are not compulsorily insured and have completed the 16th year of life. This also takes effect for Germans, who have their usual residence abroad.
- Persons, who are not Germans according to the German Basic Law ("Grundgesetz"), may be entitled for the voluntary insurance within the intergovernmental and supranational law even when they are abroad.
- Persons, who are exempt from insurance or who have been exempted from insurance, can only be voluntarily insured, if they have fulfilled the general waiting time. This does not apply to persons, who are exempted from insurance because of insignificance of employment or self-employed activity.
