In terms of the Hospital statistics of the Federal Statistical Office:
The term "child deliveries" refers to women, who have given birth in hospital in the reporting year, independent of the number of
children born. Women, who gave birth via forceps delivery, vacuum extraction delivery or caesarian section as well as women with
complications of childbirths are listed below the total number of births. Puerperal complications are defined according to diagnosis
code 085 to 092 of the ICD-10.
Women treated because of a miscarriage (stillbirths under 1,000g respectively, starting
from 1 April 1994 stillbirths under 500g)
are recorded separately. Legal abortions are not included.
Finally, the number of children
born in hospitals, including the number of children born alive or still is recorded in the Hospital statistics.
Comment(s)
From the year 2005, information on hospital deliveries with complications and women treated for miscarriages are no longer collected as part of the basic hospital data. The various complications during childbirth are proven in the diagnostic data of the hospitals according to ICD-10.
